Writing for brands and users

Words have the power to engage head and heart in infinite ways. I'm a senior brand writer who brings the strategic thinking, craft and creativity to solve all your language challenges – from voice to content to UX.

My work

About me

Since training at a global brand agency, I've spent over a decade writing across sectors, from super serious (funerals) to super not-serious (crazy golf). I've worked solo, direct with clients, and embedded in top agencies like Wolff Olins, Johnson Banks, Made By Many, and Tangent.

My skillset blends strategic thinking with creative craft, and a UX writer's eye for how subtle shifts can reshape experiences – an uncommon mix that's an asset to any project.

BRANDING

Tone of voice (or brand voice, as I prefer to call it) and messaging are two sides of the same coin. Messaging is about identifying the most important things you need people to know. Then working out how to say them. Voice is about the character you express your words with. Who's talking? And what are the (repeatable) traits that reveal that character? The two work in tandem, so it makes sense to tackle them at the same time. I can help you do just that.

WEBSITES

The message is never just the message. There's also the audience and context to consider. That's especially true of websites and apps, when a write must think like a content designer. That means asking questions like: What does the user need right now? Where are they at in their journey? How can we keep them moving? With over a decade of branding behind me, I also understand the interplay with brand voice and messaging. This unusual combination of skills means I can shape digital journeys that balance the needs of business and user -- with minimal friction and maximum delight.

COPYWRITING

If you can think of it, I've probably written it. From emails, brochures and reports, to thought leadership, case studies and blogs. Whether it's packing a big bang into just four words or unpacking depth and detail with a thousand, I have the craft and experience to tell an engaging story that's true to your brand.

NAMING

Naming is part art, part science. And it's that science-y bit that gives you the best chance of success. It starts with asking the right questions: What does the name need to achieve? How will people encounter it? Does it need to be descriptive? Or could it be evocative or even abstract (like Apple)? Which markets does it need to work in? I can help you work through this important pre-thinking. Then we embark on the magical journey of finding a name.
